7 – 8:  Your Travel Guide to Ancient Egypt by Nancy Day (pgs 1 – 51)

DISCUSS:

  • On what continent was Ancient Egypt? (Africa)
  • What 2 seas was it near? (Mediterranean & Red Sea)
  • What important river was the lifeline of ancient Egypt? (Nile River)
  • What were kings in ancient Egypt called? (Pharaohs)
  • What were some of the jobs of ancient Egyptians? (priests, chief ministers, monarchs, tradespeople, farmers, laborers, soldiers, slaves)
  • Who wore make-up? (everyone)
  • Were the Egyptians artistic? (yes)
  • What was Egyptian writing called? (Hieroglyphs)
  • Did Egyptians have celebrations? (Yes)
  • How many gods did they worship? (many!)
  • What was a mummy? (dead body that was wrapped and prepared carefully)
  • What were some of the Egyptians’ most famous buildings? (Pyramids)

ACTIVITIES: K – 8: Color this map of Ancient Egypt:  CLICK HERE.  Label the Nile River, the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea.

K – 2:  Considering all of the jobs Ancient Egyptians had, what would you like to be/do if you lived at that time? Draw a picture.

3 – 5: Considering all of the jobs Ancient Egyptians had, what would you like to be/do if you lived at that time? Why? Write a paragraph.

6 – 8:  Considering all of the jobs Ancient Egyptians had, what would you like to be/do if you lived at that time?  Why? Write an essay.
